Is It Good to Have Options?

June 30, 2010 by MomentsMom

Do you find yourself longing for the good old days when privacy concerns never crossed your mind? When you felt confident that information about your family members was known only to people who were actually part of your real life? Well, consider this:

Google Opt Out Feature Lets Users Protect Privacy By Moving To Remote Village

No, seriously though, what do you think about the burgeoning privacy issues? No big deal or the beginning of a world ruled by potentially corrupt mega-corps-as-big-brother(s)? Or something somewhere in between? Heh.

“…toil in the hinterlands and die young.”

Gotta love the Onion! But on a serious note, I do think that people are sharing too much of their lives with Facebook, Twitter, Geo-Location and yes, even Google.

I doubt that one of these companies will turn into an evil corrupt corporation, but I do think some nefarious group will exploit the data contained w/in those companies and do something “bad.” But maybe that’s just me being paranoid.

On a lesser “evil” slant – I do think that companies will continue to rely on social networks to vet candidates and a good percentage of job seekers will get turned down due to various aspects of “oversharing” on the internet.
